Alice Helms Long, 87, long time resident of Sandyville passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley. She was born August 14, 1928 in Shady Side, Ohio a daughter of the late Newell and Elizabeth Shaver Helms. She was a graduate of West Liberty State College where she obtained a liberal arts degree. She was an executive for the Black Diamond Girl Scouts Council, a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, and active with the Sandyville Senior Citizens Center. She was always very generous and had a love for all her animals. She is survived by Sister Gail Koch and her husband Robert of St. Clairsville, OH; Stepdaughter Allison Leon and husband Jay of Morgantown, WV; and Nephews Matthew Koch and Lucas Koch. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 15 years, Tom Long; Stepdaughter Karen Brockman, and a nephew Ben Koch. In honor of Alice's wishes she is being cremated with no further services scheduled. Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley is serving the Long family.
