Allyn E. Showen

October 6, 1924 — March 17, 2018

Allyn E. Showen, 93 of Ravenswood, formerly of Terre Haute, IN passed away March 17, 2018 at Ravenswood Care Center following a long illness. She was born October 6, 1924 in Big Stone Gap, VA, a daughter of the late John and Catherine Collins Hart. She was a Pastors Wife that supported her husband’s ministry from her heart but she was also driven by many passions especially when it came to teaching children. Teaching children reading and helping to bring out the very best in them helped her to create “Mr. Bestinyou,” an elfin friend who writes letters every week to students teaching them manners and acknowledges acts of kindness. She also wrote Sunday School Literature for David C. Cook Publishing as well as having short stories published by Parade Magazine. She was a member of the Terre Haute First Baptist Church and also enjoyed fishing during her time of relaxing. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Archie Showen Jr. and her daughter, Suzanne Welker. She survived by her loving son Tim Showen and his wife Debbie of Kenna; three grandchildren, Matt Walton, Jessica Showen and Emily Withrow and great grandchildren Zoe Walton, Ethni Withrow and Lawson Withrow. A Celebration of her life will be 4:00 pm Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Terre Haute, 4701 Poplar Dr., Terre Haute, IN with Rev. Bernie Jackson officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations in memory of Allyn to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Terre Haute, 4701 Poplar Dr., Terre Haute, IN, 47803
