Alonzo Paul Cottrill, 84 of Parkersburg, passed away November 14, 2023 at Cedar Grove Assisted Living Facility, Parkersburg, following an extended illness.
He was born April 17, 1939 in Charleston, son of the late George and Virginia Wiseman Cottrill. He served his country in the US Army and retired as a Fireman with the city of Charleston following 23 years of service. After retiring from the Fire Department, he sold Insurance for AIG and drove a School Bus for Kanawha County Schools. He enjoyed sitting in his rocker and watching westerns, gospel Music and playing and beating his grandchildren in cards. HE also preached the gospel for the Advent Christian Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Lorri Cottrill of Ripley; sister, Louise Ray of North Carolina; grandchildren, Jessica Burnsed of Charleston and Michael Bowsbey of Ft. Eustis, VA; great grandchildren, Maddison, Magnolia, Addyson and Averi.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffery Cottrill and Jimmy Cottrill.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor Arco Sharp officiating. Fireman’s Rites provided by Charleston Fire Department and Military Rites by the Jackson County Honor Guard will be observed after the service. Following the service His request for cremation will be honored.
