Arthur L. Kerns

Arthur L. Kerns, 96 of Ripley passed away at home on Tuesday October 17. Arthur was born on October 2, 1927 in Yawkey, WV, a son of the late Kelly and Gracie Campbell Kerns.

Arthur worked and then retired from Kaiser Aluminum over 40 years ago. He attributed his longevity to retiring at the age of 55.

Arthur married his sweetheart, Iola Ryan Kerns on June 9, 1947. They were truly in love and set a great example for their children and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Iola, his second wife, Violet Kerns, daughter, Pam (Bill) Walker, brothers Ralph (Eunice) Kerns, James Lester (Zona) Kerns, Benny (Mavis) Kerns, sister Dorthy Kerns, and grandson Arthur Pernell.

Arthur is survived by his sister Jean (John) Williams, sons Jerry (Josie) Kerns, Donnie (Ruby) Kerns, Ronnie (Bonnie) Kerns, daughter Beverly Hartley, grandchildren Paula (Deb) Pernell, Terri (Skip) Board, Don (Amy) Kerns II, Jerry Kerns II, Kelly (Arron) McCall, Ronnie (Amy) Kerns II, Jay (Heather) Kerns, Sarah (Daniel) Hammond, Gerald (Janie) Densmore, 16 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren.

Arthur loved taking long walks through the woods, hunting, raising a garden and taking care of his yard and flowers, spending time with family and friends. He was proud of his family. He was a very good man and we never heard anyone say a bad word about him. He will be greatly missed by all.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Josie and Jessica for the excellent care they provided our Dad.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday October 21 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Funeral Service starting at 3:00 PM with Reverend Doctor Don Kerns II officiating.
