Barbara Jean Woodrum, 85, of Ripley, WV, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022, and joined her son Mark in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her funeral service will be held on August 3, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Ripley Baptist Temple, with Pastor Rick Perrine officiating. A private interment will be held at Fairplain Cemetery. Barbara was born June 14, 1937, in Turtle Creek, WV. She is the daughter of the late Bethel Barker and Mable Skeenes Barker. She graduated from Scott High School in Madison in 1954, the same year she met her husband, Herman “Buddy” Woodrum. Yet, even before she met Buddy, she had pointed him out to her mother during a trip to town, saying, "That's the man I am going to marry." Sure enough, she and Buddy were married in 1960. Barbara and Buddy moved their family to Ripley in 1976. She took great pride in taking care of her three boys and raising them to know and follow the Lord. They read the Bible and prayed together nearly every day until they left home. Barbara was also her boys' biggest fan. She traveled the state to nearly every one of their games. She made sure, too, that her sport-lovin' sons were always properly nourished. A hot breakfast was always waiting on the table before they left for school. She found great joy in serving Jesus alongside her husband at Ripley Baptist Temple. She was involved in numerous ministries over the years, including 1st grade Sunday school teacher and working in the bus ministry. She was always eager to open her home and share life with others. She especially enjoyed hosting missionaries. For many years she volunteered at Heritage Christian Academy in Ravenswood, even working for several years as a monitor in the classroom. After Buddy’s retirement, they lived an active life of walking on the track, bowling, riding bikes on the Greenbrier River Trail, and traveling to see her children and grandchildren. Barbara is survived by her loving husband Herman “Buddy” Woodrum; children John David Woodrum (Michelle) of Bainbridge, Georgia, and Paul Stephen Woodrum of Bremerton, Washington. Barbara is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Shellby (Matt), Collin, Emellia, Harrison, Alexa, and Kylie and her sister, Carolyn Acree of Frozen Camp. Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Mark James Woodrum. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 2, from 6–8 p.m. at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Ripley Baptist Temple.
