Bernard Lee Cobb

November 17, 1941 — September 2, 2021

Bernard Lee Cobb, 79, of Ripley, went home to be with the Lord on September 2, 2021 at Howard County General Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine in Columbia, Maryland. He was born November 17, 1941 in Fairplain, WV, a son of the late Early and Martha Cobb of Fairplain and had 10 siblings. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Nancy Cobb, and 8 of his brothers and sisters and one great grandson. He is survived by two siblings, 8 children; Greg Cobb, Gary Cobb, Greg “Bear” Barickman, Kim Phillips, Tabatha Martin, Danette Mendenhall, Tammy Barickman and Brandon Cobb; as well as 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. In his youth, Bernard enjoyed everything from racing to boxing. He later served in military tours in Germany and then worked for Kaiser Aluminum after being honorably discharged from the Army. Bernard then founded B&G Heating and Cooling which has been serving the community for 40 years. Bernard served as Director of General Services for the West Virginia State Capitol until retirement. Bernard enjoyed outdoor activities which included hunting, fishing, and gardening. He loved eating ramps and is well known for his beef jerky recipe. He was a very spirited person and continued to be a fighter through the major health problems of his life. He was very active in his church, loved his Lord, and his family. He will be remembered for his strength, resiliency, work ethic, and strong leadership. A celebration of Bernard’s life will be Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the Ripley Church of Christ, 112 Jackson Ave., Ripley, WV with Walter Smittle officiating. A time of sharing will be from 4:30pm until the time of service at 6pm. “Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord - for we walk by faith, not by sight - we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 NASB1995 “But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 NASB1995 In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Bernard to the Family House at University of Pittsburg. Donations can be made online at familyhouse.org/support or by telephone 412-647-5811. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at waybrightfuneralhome.com
