Bernard A. Lockhart

November 17, 1931 — February 17, 2024

Bernard Alonzo Lockhart became reunited with his bride on February 17, 2024 after an extended illness. Bernard was born on November 17, 1931, in Lockhart, Jackson County, West Virginia to the late Roscoe and Belva Lockhart. He was a 1951 graduate of Gilmore High School in Sandyville, WV. He was a member of the Lockhart United Methodist Church.

He married his high school sweetheart, Wilda Mae Utt, on June 23, 1951. Together they have three loving children, Birdie Ann Wood (Nick) of Ripley, Brent Lockhart (Criss) of Barboursville and Brian Lockhart of Port Republic, VA; grand-children Erin Southern (Brian), Benjamin Lockhart (Mittra), Brooke Phillips (John), Brittany Miller and Brandy Lockhart (Jonathan); step-grandchildren Lewis and John “Manny” Pauley; great-grandchildren Tanner Southern, Declan and Connelly Lockhart, Madison and Weston Phillips, Dylan Lockhart, Dylan and Kieran Albright and Nadia Miller; step great-grandchildren Jack and Margo Pauley and many nieces and nephews.

He is survived by a brother-in-law Delmar “Bub” Utt of Liverpool, WV.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71-years, Wilda Mae Utt Lockhart and his sister Wilma Wells.

He retired with 35-years from E. I. DuPont in Parkersburg where he worked in the labs and was a master electrician. After retirement he performed several “clerk of the works” jobs for the Jackson County Board of Education. He was a member of the Moose and Eagles in Parkersburg.

Bernard was most happy in the seat of a tractor, dozer or riding lawnmower and listening to Bluegrass music. He always enjoyed buying any old vehicle and bringing it back to life. He was the neighborhood “Mr. Fix It”. He and Wilda were members of the Star Dusters square dance group (back in the day) and you would occasionally hear him clogging in the shower.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22 at the Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley, WV. with Pastor Sarah E. Allen officiating.
