Betty Ellen Paul, 93 of Ripley, daughter of the late Velma Tincher and Claude Tincher, went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2023 in UNC Hospital in Hillsborough, North Carolina where she has been staying with her niece, Anita and Doug Moats since August 2019.
Betty was born January 5, 1930 in Hurricane, WV. Betty married her late husband Johnny Paul and they became prominent business owners in Ripley and Hurricane. Such businesses include the Alpine Hotel and Restaurant, Alpine Theater, Paul’s Family Restaurant and Betty’s Casual Clothing Store.
In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Claude Ancil Tincher, Darrell Tincher, Barbara Jean Tincher, Fannie Lorene Tincher, Rosalyn Ann Tincher, Juanita Helen Branham, Vera Maxine Raferty, Carolyn Sheperd and James Tincher.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Kitty Lee and James William “Bill” Hardin of Columbia, SC; two grandsons and their wives, James Kennedy and Mihwa Hardin of Texas and John Christopher and Traci Hardin of Columbia, SC; three great grandsons, a great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Jon Branham.
At Betty’s request, a graveside service will be at 2:00 pm Friday, August 11, 2023 at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV. Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley is serving the family.
