Betty Lou Phillips

May 21, 1930 — August 17, 2018

Betty Lou Phillips (nee Weaver) passed away peacefully at home on August 17, 2018, at the age of 88. She was born May 21, 1930, in Morgantown, West Virginia, to Guy and Myrtle Weaver. Betty graduated Morgantown High School and attended West Virginia University. She worked as a switchboard operator in Morgantown. In 1958 she married Ralph Phillips, who preceded her in death in 2005. Betty and Ralph moved to Charleston where she continued to work for the local phone company. They moved to the Ripley area in the 60's where they raised two children and lived the remainder of their days. Betty was an accomplished golfer and bowler. She was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and, win or lose, her West Virginia Mountaineers. She was a knowledgeable fan and enjoyed listening to the games on the radio and playing and winning fantasy football. She is survived by her daughter Lisa and her husband Todd of Aptos, California and her son Nathan, his wife Elizabeth, and her much loved grandchildren, Mason and Caraline, all of Charleston, West Virginia. Betty required continual care in her later years. This was accomplished by several incredible and generous people. The family would especially like to thank several individuals in particular; Vickie Skeen, Arlene Boggess, Ora Reynolds, and Scott and Tena Casto. Through the sacrifices and love of these people, Betty was able to live her last years in wonderful company and in her own home. A Graveside Service is planned for Mount Calvary Cemetery in Morgantown on November 17th, at 1:00 PM. Memorial donations in memory of Betty can be made to the Jackson County Animal Shelter at 86 County Farm Rd, Cottageville, WV 25239.
