Bonnie I. Dewees

Bonnie Ivalee (McClain) DeWees, 90 of Ripley passed away at her home on February 10, 2023 following an extended illness.

Bonnie was born September 18, 1932 at Gay, daughter of the late Flavious and Rulina Stalnaker McClain. She was a member of the Paradise Rebekah Lodge and retired from Jackson General Hospital where she worked in the cafeteria for 14 years. During her working days she also worked at the Village Cafeteria, the Daniel Boone Restaurant and Ben’s Bakery. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and loved taking care of her family, small children and elderly who were in need.

She is survived by her sons, Rex (Jackie) DeWees of Ripley and Bruce (Lisa) DeWees of Gay; daughters Shirley Hartley of Ripley, Kathy (Bill) Casto of Statts Mill and Betsy (Ronnie) Sheets of Ripley; sister Lorene (Erman) Lupardus; grandchildren, Blinda McCroskey, Howard (Cathy) Hartley, Travis Casto, Sara Ballengee, Cristy (Mike) Fernatt, Misty (Kevin) White, Andrew (Richelle) Sheets, Robert DeWees and Ben (Lindsay) DeWees. Also survived by 16 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Oda DeWees; son Darrell DeWees; brothers Claud, Chester, Ernest, Orin, Jerry, Marlin and Elman McClain and sisters, Eva Clark, Ivy Tolley, Dorothy Harpold and Alice McClain.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor Lyman Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Stonelick DeWees-Gandee Cemetery, Kenna WV. Friends may call from 11:00 am until the time of service at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Bonnie’s memory to Stonelick Cemetery, c/o Terry Garnes 2047 Stonelick Rd., Kenna, WV 25248
