Boyd R. (Jack) Starcher passed away on October 19, 2014; born on January 15, 1927 in Given WV (formerly of Kenna WV and Monaca PA) and married Alice Marie (Fisher) on October 16, 1954. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Alice on July 4, 2009, his parents Ruby Belle (Stalnaker) and John Cleveland Starcher four brothers, Darrell Wooster, Lestel Richard, Warren Obra, Cletus Chester Starcher and sisters Hazel Marie King and Dolly Pauline Groome. Surviving are his sister Macel Maxine (Starcher) Wright, Winfield, WV; sister-in-law Barbara Starcher, Beaver; his five children: Judy (Charlie) Meadows, Sparks, GA; George Steven Gandee, Monaca; Boyd (Jack) ( Fernanda Paez) Starcher, Beaver; Ricky V. (Christina) Starcher, Monaca; and Jeffrey (Tonya) Starcher, Elwood, IN. Fifteen grandchildren: George (Cindy), Rob (Judy) and Tim Weyandt; Steve (Hope) Gandee and Susan (Jim) Garcia; Sarah (J.J.) Rombold; Hilary (Noel) O'Toole; Aaron, Seth (Danielle), Luke, Hannah, Adam (Kirby Kendall), Samantha (Jonathan Caldwell), Haley, and Gabriel Starcher; 13 great grandchildren and many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins who meant the world to him and are too numerous to name! Jack served in WWII in the 88th Infantry Division of Company L 351st Regiment, as well as serving in the Korean War in the 3rd Infantry Division of Company I, 7th Regiment from 1951 - 1952; he finished his military career as a Drill Sargent. Once out of the military and having previously worked for Dunbar Glass, he was asked to help move the Hand Shops from Dunbar WV to Monaca when Phoenix Glass acquired Dunbar Glass. Jack worked his way up through the ranks moving from the Hand Shops into middle management and finally into the position of Vice President before retiring. His career at Phoenix Glass lasted almost 30 years. The family would like to thank Dad's special friend, Beatrice Jean (JB) Bumgardner, who helped him through the trials and tribulations of everyday life. Golf was his favorite hobby; often golfing up to three times a week shortly before his death. It was nothing for Dad to finish up a round of golf and then head out to the country for a few games of pool with family and friends; music was a close second to his heart. Many nights you would find Dad playing his guitar or banjo with friends. His children and grandchildren enjoyed many evenings of music and making wonderful memories with him and Mom. He was a great husband, father and grandfather who taught all of his children the importance of family and friends, but also hard work. We all miss his daily calls asking when we're coming down! West Virginia is, and always will be, a vital part of our family. Thanks for all the memories DAD!
