Bruce Edgar “Doc” Murrey Sr., 90, of Sandyville died January 23, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 25, 1928 in Athens, OH, the son of the late Frank Atkins Murrey Sr and Bernice Currey Murrey. Bruce joined the U.S. Navy at the age of seventeen in 1946 and took his training at Great Lakes, IL. He sailed on the maiden voyage of the USS St. Paul to China. He worked at Food & Mac at South Charleston, WV and later retired from Kaiser Aluminum and Constellium of Ravenswood after many years of service. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union #5668 Bruce is survived by his wife of 69 years, Emma Walters Murrey; son Bruce E. Murrey Jr. (Cheri); daughter Bernice Greer (Patrick); sister Frances Balser (Quinton); brother Frank Murrey Jr. (Ann). He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Murrey. As well as siblings Betty Parrish, Robert Murrey, Anita Headly, and Carl Surface. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday February 3rd at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor Tom Nolan officiating. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Independence Cemetery, Sandyville. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Bruce’s memory to a charity of your choice.
