Calvin Thomas, 86 of Ripley, WV passed away July 9, 2013 at his home following a long illness. He was born March 8, 1927 in Charleston, WV a son of the late John D. and Rachel Hall Thomas. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Frances Thomas; son William Calvin Thomas and brothers Harwood Thomas and Daniel Thomas. He was a graduate of Charleston High School and Moody Bible Institute. He was an Army Veteran of World War II serving in Germany, worked at the DuPont Plant in Belle and retired from Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood, WV. He was a former Deacon and member of the Ripley Baptist Temple and attended the West Ripley Baptist Church. Calvin was a proud and loving father of three daughters: Sharon Swecker of Dublin, OH, Micki (Steve) Clendenin of Ripley and Phyllis (Mike) McMillion of Morgantown. He had 8 grandchildren, John Swecker of Largo, FL, Scott (Nicole) Swecker of Dublin, OH, Amy (Danny) DeGoricia of Dublin, OH, Jill (Jason) Balko of Morgantown, Mary Anne Clendenin of Ripley, Sherry (Jason) Meadows of Ravenswood, Krista (Graci) Beyhaut of Raleigh, NC and Brent McMillion of Morgantown. He also had 9 great grandchildren. Surviving Calvin are his loving sisters, Juanita Canterbury of DuPont City, June White of Charleston and Virginia Ellars of Charleston. A private family service will be held at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens with Vince Riffe officiating with burial to follow. Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley is serving the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Calvin's memory to Hospice. Service: Private Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens
