Carolyn Sue Starcher

June 19, 1943 — December 21, 2023

Carolyn Sue Starcher, 80 of Cottageville, passed away December 21, 2023 in Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, following an extended illness.

Sue was born June 19, 1943 in Charleston, daughter of the late Willard and Ruth Runnion Wells. She retired from the West Virginia Department of Education where she served at Cedar Lakes. Sue enjoyed going to the Amish Country and Loved serving in her church, The Abundant Life Church.

She is survived by her son, Paul Gillespie; step children, Mitzie (Tom) Simms, Teresa (Doug) Brick and Dennie (Christy) Starcher-Ward; grandchildren, Tyler, Nathaniel and Colton Gillespie, Seth Runnion-Gillespie, Jason Brick, Jeremy Brick, Shawn Simms, Aaron Simms, Tori Ward, Seth Ward, Steve Gillespie and Emmanuel Gillespie; great grandchildren, Nora and Kate Brick and Audrey and Levi Simms.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband William Gillespie, second husband, Denzel Starcher: a son, Todd Gillespie and a brother Donnie Wells.

Memorial Service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor Kelly Mellen officiating. A time of visitation with the family will be from 11:00 am until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
