Carolyn Faye Tignor, 70, of Sissonville passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, December 3, 2018 at Charleston Area Medical Center following her battle with lung cancer. Carolyn was born on May 23, 1948 to the late Garnet and William Shaffer. She was raised with her sisters and brothers Margaret, Edna, Bill, and Robert. In junior high she met her husband of fifty one years, Charles W. Tignor. She graduated from Sissonville High School in 1966. Following high school, Carolyn coached “biddy-basketball” cheerleading for many years. She retired from the Kanawha County School system, where she worked as a teacher’s aide and autism mentor for several Sissonville schools. In addition, Carolyn loved feeding the wildlife outside her kitchen window, and spending time with her friends and family, usually gathered around the dinner table. In 1982, Carolyn and Charlie welcomed their son Terry Brian Tignor. The greatest testament to Carolyn’s life was the love she demonstrated in service to others. She consistently baked, cooked, crocheted, sewed, sent cards, and used her many other talents for her friends and family. Always a smile, a hug, and a cheery greeting, when Carolyn entered the room. She is survived by her husband, Charles Tignor, of Sissonville; son and daughter-in-law Terry and Rachel Tignor of Morgantown; sister Margaret Cunningham of Sissonville; sister Edna Myers of Goldtown; and brother Bill Shaffer and wife Glenna of Sissonville. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Garnet and William Shaffer, and her brother, Robert Moss. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2018 at Waybright Funeral Home, in Ripley. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Floral Hills Gardens of Memories Cemetery on Sissonville Drive in Sissonville.
