Carroll Lee Harris, 90, of Ripley passed away Monday, April 20, 2026, at Jackson General Hospital following a short illness.
Caroll was born on October 1, 1935, at Kentuck, WV. A son of the late Jospeh and Vade (Hite) Harris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Josephine “Jo” (Casto) Harris, daughter Evelyn Harris Farra and various siblings and loved ones.
He is survived by his children, Brenda (Mark) Pursley of Ripley and Kevin (Shelley) Harris of Evans; Grandchildren Jerry Cantwell II of Parkersburg, Jaxon and Avery Harris of Evans and two great grandchildren Devin and Erin Cantwell.
Carroll was proud of his family and was a Christian and loved telling people about the Lord. He had several different jobs over the years. He worked at Rhodes Hatchery for many years, raising and caring for thousands of chickens and other poultry and selling and delivering them across the eastern United States. He also worked for a time as a corrections officer with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Kaiser Aluminum. In the early 1980s, he left Kaiser Aluminum to farm full-time, raising and selling beef cattle on his farm at Statts Mills where he first began farming in 1953. Carroll always took pride in his work and caring for his land and was proud to pass this trait on to his children. He was a man of little leisure and loved to work hard and see the fruits of his labor. He was very grateful for his friend and farm hand of 40+ years, Roy Casto, who was like a second son to him.
The family would like to thank his caregiver of several years Rose Mary Rhodes, as well as nurse practitioner, Lily Boyd and her wonderful staff and the doctors, nurses and medical staff at Jackson General Hospital who so loving cared for him during his final days. They brought great peace and comfort to him and his family.
To honor his wishes and that of his family, there will be a private burial at Independence in Sandyville, WV with Pastor Enoch Pursley officiating. Online memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.waybrightfuneralhome.com
