Christy Carney Campbell

Christy Carney Campbell, 68, a long-time resident of Ripley in Jackson County, WV, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday the 17th of October at her home in St. Louis due to an extended illness. She was born on July 10, 1948, and a daughter of the late Harold and Hallie Carney. Christy graduated from Ripley High in 1966. She received a Bachelor of Arts in History and Economics from Marshall University in 1970 and continued her education at College of Graduate Studies, from which she received her Master’s in Education. Christy was a teacher at Poca High School prior to moving to Ripley High School where she worked in the Special Education program and was a substitute teacher for several years. After leaving the education field, she began doing what she loved, working with floral design. Christy worked at various places designing arrangements. She loved working with Evergreen Florist here in Ripley and often came back here for visits just to assist them at special times of the year. Christy attended Calvary Methodist Church and was an avid Marshall fan. She was a very caring person, always socializing, enjoying a good laugh and a wonderful smile. She enjoyed her special treats to herself, Reese cups and Mr. B potato chips and dip. Preceding her in death is her husband, Rick. She is survived by her son, Chad Campbell and daughter, Whitney ‘Muffie’ Campbell, both of St. Louis, MO. In addition, her great treasures were her three grandsons, Jaden, Carson and Kennedy. These boys brought her great joy and she treasured every minute of time she spent taking care of them and taking them fishing. Also surviving, is her dear friend, Tanya Ball, where Christy treasured their times together and beach trips; and, Tanya’s daughter, Brandi, who Christy spoke about often in high regards. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Rev. Charles Hicks officiating. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
