Clyde Wesley Nutter, 80 of Gay, passed away at Camden Clark Medical Center on Monday, May 11, 2026. He was born May 2, 1946 in Charleston, a son of the late Clyde and Hattie Brooks.

He was a 60 year member of the IUOE Local 132-International Union of Operating Engineers and retired from Babcock and Wilcox. He also worked for Geupel Construction Inc. and Kimberly Industries, making a name for himself in the area as a “groundhog”.

A few things that brought Clyde joy were farming, tending to his cattle, riding his sxs with Pumpkin, and attending auctions. He will be missed dearly.

He is survived by his daughter, Emily Casto and her husband Bobby of Gay; grandchildren Wesley Nutter (Andrea) of Barboursville, Morgan Casto (Nick Jefferies) of Gay, and Megan Casto (Jeremiha Witt) of Ripley; great-granddaughter, Athena Grace Nutter of Barboursville; sisters, Viola Downs of Spencer, and Virginia Lyons of Eastlake, Ohio; and his fur baby, Pumpkin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Sharon Nutter; brothers, Cletus Nutter, Charles Nutter, Carl Nutter, and Johnny Asbury; and sisters, Phyllis Sampson and BettyLou Martin. In honoring his wishes, there will be a graveside in the Jackson County Memory Gardens in Cottageville on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 1p.m. with pastor Lymon Anderson officiating.
