Colby Joshua Kyer, 16, of Evans, died December 23, 2017, suddenly. He was born December 12, 2001 in Parkersburg, WV, the son of Joshua Kyer and Lela (Boggess) Walker. He was a sophomore at Ripley High School, where he was a member of the Ripley High School band and the Jazz ensemble in which he played the trombone and a member of the Ripley FFA chapter. Colby was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and had been a member of Troop 440. He achieved the Star rank in his troop and was a mentor to many of the younger scouts. Colby enjoyed a wide range of outdoor activities; fishing and hunting, frog and turtle catching, beekeeping and getting animals ready for the Jackson County Junior Fair. Colby had a special bond with animals and they with him. He attended Ripley Baptist Temple Church and knew and loved the Lord. Colby is survived by his father and step mother Josh and Sarah (Hunter) Kyer his sister Clara at home; his mother Lela (Boggess) Walker; brother Christopher Short. His maternal grandmother is, Arlene (Young) Boggess. He also leaves behind paternal grandparents Stevie and Peggy Kyer and Virginia Humphrey; grandparents Luke and Mitsy Hunter of Ripley. He is survived by his special uncle Russ Kyer and several aunts, uncles and cousins. His maternal grandfather the late William Cecil Boggess Sr preceded him in death. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley. Calling hours will be Thursday from 3-8. The funeral will be held on Friday at 1.00p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
