Her Aunts, Dolly Harpold and Barbara (Kitty) Pettry Hurley of Florida. Her brothers and sister’s children and their children and great nieces and nephews. All of her favorite nieces and nephews, whom she loved first, spread far and wide from Indiana to West Virginia to Florida. She loved being everyone’s favorite Aunt Connie and adored being a surrogate mother for most of them. Connie is also survived by her one and only daughter, Dena LoRaine Pettry, whom she loved dearly. She was determined to be the best mom, devoted to Dena’s accomplishments and wanted to witness them all. Connie helped her persevere through an Associate in Arts, General Studies degree; as well as two Associate in Science degrees, Paralegal degrees for Litigation and Transactions as well as her Bachelor’s in Science for Legal Studies from the University of Central Florida. Connie lived and died for Dena. During her last year, she was continuously hospitalized for Acute Myeloid Leukemia, with Myelodysplastic syndrome, requiring blood transfusions to sustain life. She stayed fighting until the end of the world for more time with her daughter. When she was a little short and living on borrowed time and blood; when doctors said she had days to live, she told them that she would make it to her daughter’s college graduation and her birthday. She and God worked it out and she made it to the last major milestones she could, passing only four days after her birthday. In Connie’s younger years, she made her home with Dolly & Okey Miller, her aunt and uncle in Pocatalico, WV and went to Sissonville High School. She then went to IUPUI and into the medical field as one of the best nurses the world has ever seen, she was a lifesaver and she was smart. She also did private and institutional nursing as well as taught medical classes during her career. She diagnosed herself with Muscular Dystrophy and talked many uninformed doctors out of the room. In lieu of flowers, if you desire to make a monetary contribution that will be so welcomed to complete Dena’s education as she made a promise to her mom to attend Graduate School.
