Mrs. Daphne Taylor Turner, 84, of Ripley, died peacefully at her home Tuesday, October 21, 2014 with her loving family at her side, after a long illness. The only daughter of Ethel Anna Taylor of Clay, W.V. she was a strong Christian who read her Bible every day as long as she was able. She was a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church, Pinch WV and in later years was active with her church in Union Grove NC and Parchment Valley Baptist Church, Ripley WV where she served with the American Baptist Women. She was always a member of the choir who loved to praise her Lord in song. She graduated from Clay County High School in 1947, and from the old Kanawha Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. She worked most of her career at Kanawha Valley Hospital, serving in several positions in the hospital. She also worked for Dr. I. E. Buff in his office, and was employed by Union Carbide in the dispensaries at the South Charleston Plant and the Technical Center in Spring Hill. Daphne married Davie Belden Turner on December 31st, 1948, and had two sons; Jonathan (Teena) of Elkview, and David (Crystal) of Spencer. She has two grandchildren: Adam (Katherine), of Leesburg VA, and Patricia of Charlotte NC, along with three great-grandchildren: Lucie, Andrew, and Robert. Other survivors are her only brother, James R. Taylor (Dorothy) of Nitro, four nieces, two nephews, and a family who is very proud of her. She was a person who lived her strong faith and was an example of competent and loving care. She loved to paint and draw and give her artwork away to her family. She was a superlative cook, whether it be with special birthday dinners, or taking food cooked in her family's heirloom dutch oven to her nursing class reunions. Arrangements are being handled by Waybright Funeral Home, 511 So. Church St., Ripley WV, where open visitation will be Friday, October 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with funeral services Saturday October 25th at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at the Turner Family cemetery in Harrison, Clay County. In keeping with Daphne's desire to spread the Good News, contributions may be made to the Bible Ministry of Parchment Valley Baptist Church.
