David Lee Bourgeois

May 3, 1957 — February 25, 2017

David Bourgeois, 59 of Ripley, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family after a valiant year long fight with cancer. He was born May 3, 1957 at Ripley, a son of Cora Stewart Bourgeois of Ripley and the late William Henry Bourgeois Jr. He was 1975 graduate of Ripley High School and a 1980 graduate of West Virginia University. He taught at the Arch Moore Vo-Tech Center for eight years and 24 years at Ripley High School as a Vocational Agriculture Instructor where he touched and help form many lives. He retired in 2012 but continued to teach as a substitute doing what he loved to do. He was the current President of the Cedar Lakes Foundation and the Jackson County Association of Retired School Employees. He served on the Board of the Jackson County Jr. Fair Association and the Jackson County Commission on Aging. David loved spending time with his family, farming and helping others. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandra McCracken Bourgeois; sons Brandon (Annette) Bourgeois, Caleb and Andrew Bourgeois; grandsons Carson and Tyler; sisters Bonnie (John) Curry, Rachel Bourgeois and Jennifer Marshall) Gandee; nieces and nephews Glen Jr. (Bridget) Hunter, Ben (Missy) Hunter, Rebecca ( David) Sinclair, Jacob Hunter, John William (Bobbie) Curry, Jeff (Susan) Curry and Justin Curry. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Hunter. Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor Danny Cummings officiating. Burial will be in the Bourgeois Family Cemetery on the family farm on Ravenswood Pike, Ripley. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations in to The David Bourgeois Memorial Scholarship c/o the Jackson County Community Foundation or Hospice Care of Charleston, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., Charleston, WV 25387 David’s family would like to thank the community for their continued support through David’s illness.
