David Bruce Parsons, 67, of Ripley passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024 at his home following a short illness.
Bruce was born April 17, 1956 in Ripley a son of the late Ernest H. and Jacquelin Lee (Board) Parsons. Bruce was a 1974 graduate of Ripley High School and would go on to obtain a Masters of Education from West Virginia University. He would retire from the Jackson County Board of Education where he was a special education teacher with 36 years of service. Bruce was an advocate for his students and was very involved with them through Special Olympics and teaching summer school. Bruce also enjoyed cheering on the West Virginia Mountaineers and Ripley Vikings and enjoyed taking family members to different events with him.
Bruce is survived by his brother Don Parsons (Debbie); sister-in-law Becky Mullins; nieces Emily Durst (Justin), Lily Beth Boyd (Billy) and Mandy Rhodes (Derek); nephews David Ball (Jessica), Ryan Parsons and Ronnie Mullins (Kelli). He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews. Bruce will also be deeply missed by his two cats, Prissy Blue and Harley.
In addition to his parents Bruce was preceded in death by brothers Jeff Parsons and Doug Parsons.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 9th at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor David Hinzman officiating. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bruce’s memory to Jackson County Special Olympics.
