David Lee Sheets Sr.

David Lee Sheets Sr. 64 of Ripley, WV passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015 from pancreatic cancer at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, with family by his side. He was preceded in death by his father Leslie O. Sheets and brother Michael Sheets. He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Judy: son David Lee Sheets Jr and wife Anna, son Joseph J.L. Sheets and wife Ashley, grandchildren Maria Fletcher, Kimberly Jones, John Michael Jones, Carley and Callie Sheets all of Ripley. Mother Kathleen B. Sheets, brothers Randy Sheets, Andy (Juanita) Sheets and Ronnie (Betsy) Sheets, sisters Connie (Jeff) Ellis all of Ripley and Diane Fore of Sissonville, several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his phone buddy and brother in law Jimmy Thomas of Newark, Ohio. David was born in Charleston and raised in Cabin Creek, WV. Upon his return from serving his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War, David met the love of his life and settled in Ripley, WV to start his family and his career as a heavy equipment operator for the State of WV Department of Highways. As the years passed he was blessed with two sons. He was a very loving, nurturing and caring father that put his family first. David was also very active in his children's academic and extra-curricular activities. David retired from the Department of Highways after 34 years of service as a heavy equipment operator. He was active in his community as a volunteer for Angel Food Ministries, Community Food Pantry, Angel Tree Salvation Army and the Thrift Shop. He helped people all the time and loved to help his children. David's hobbies included hunting, carpentry work, camping with his family, traveling WV and studying its history. He loved working on the farm even if it was a long, hard day of work. His passion was running equipment of any kind, but most of all David was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather that was very loved by his family. He was well respected by everyone who came in touch with him. The family would like to thank the staff of the David Lee Cancer Center at Teays Valley, CAMC Memorial and the Hubbard Hospice Houser for taking such good care of him.. Funeral Service will be 2:30 Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with John Gunther officiating. Burial will follow with Military Rites by American Legion Post 107, Ripley in the Pine Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 am until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
