Della Elizabeth Mcvay

Della Elizabeth Phillips McVay, formerly of Ripley, WV died November 2, 2022 at Emerald Pointe in Barnesville, OH. She was born April 7, 1925 at Duke Station, WV. She was the last surviving child of David Phillips, Sr. and Cordelia Snyder Phillips of Liverpool, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos(Ed)McVay; a daughter, Charlene June; a son, Larry Darcy and a grandson, Bruce McVay.

She is survived by her daughter, Jan (David) Leet of Louisville, KY, sons Darrell (Ruth Ann) McVay of St. Clairsville, OH and Dewayne McVay of Massillon, OH, daughters -in-law Jeanette McVay of Millersburg, OH and Brenda McVay of Strasburg, OH. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Trent McVay, Timothy McVay, Marcus McVay, Travis Leet, Eric McVay. Jennifer Reynolds, Michelle Parsons, Adam McVay and Jeremy McVay, twelve great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cherished friends. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

She was a strong, determined and independent lady who worked as an Assistant Nutritionist at Jackson County Senior Center, Ripley, WV until the age of 85. She was an avid seamstress, even at a young age, then later a quilter, giving many quilts to family and friends. She loved to sing gospel music and chat with anyone she met. Growing plants and flowers was a cherished past time.

We want to thank the staff at Senior Suites, St. Clairsville, OH, Park Health, St. Clairsville, OH and Emerald Pointe, Barnesville, OH for their time in caring and befriending her. Also appreciated are the specialized caregivers who gave her care in Louisville, KY. Family and friends will be received at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, WV on Friday November 11 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. A service of God's word and remembrance follows immediately at noon, officiated by Rev. Bud McVey. Family and friends are invited to share a memory as well. Burial will be at Liverpool United Methodist Cemetery, Liverpool, WV at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Jackson County Senior Center, Ripley, WV or a charitable organization of your choice.
