Dereck James Simmons, 25, of Fresno, OH, formerly of Ripley passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in Princeton, WV

Dereck was born June 27, 1998 in Ripley, WV to parents James Simmons and Eshia Cook. Dereck was currently employed as a laborer for Precision Pipeline. He was the graduate of the Mountaineer Challenge Academy, an avid basketball fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Dereck is survived by his father James Simmons; mother Eshia Cook; brothers Dylan Shoffner and Jamie Ray Shinn; sister Taylor Cook; grandmothers Karen Kennerly and Brenda Simmons; Aunts and uncles Cathy Lawrence (Mike), Tim Sisson (Cassandra), Tina Moore (Scottie), Kenneth “Bubby” Asbury, Amy Ulvin, Mike Cosner (Janelle), Sherry Marks (Roger) and Tammy Woods (Steve). He is also survived by many cousins and extended family.

Dereck was preceded in death by grandfathers James Steven Simmons and Edward Cook and grandmother Karen Harper

A service to celebrate Dereck’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 16th at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Darren Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley.
