Don Bessinger

Donald H. Bessinger, 76 of Spencer passed away December 7, 2023 at Hubbard Hospice House, West, in South Charleston, WV.

Don was an oilfield worker for 50 years. He began his career in West Texas at the age of 18 with Dresser Industries. Don began his career as a shop hand and eventually became manager. His career moved him to Wichita Falls, TX for a few years, then he moved to Weatherford, TX for several years. He retired from Dresser Industries after 30 years of service.

After a 6 week break, Don had the opportunity to manage Downhole Equipment Department for BJ Services in Mineral Wells, TX. After retiring he moved to West Virginia.

Don was known for his years of chili-cookoffs at the different shops that he managed. Droves of people showed up at his shop for his famous chili.

Don enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He said he felt closer to God when he was in the mountains.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stella Blessing Camp and Lewis Bessinger, a twin brother, Ronald Bessinger and a sister, Carol Taylor..

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Frankie Sue Bessinger; daughters Tammy Jones (Lesley), Pam Heis (Bill); granddaughter Jordan Jones (Lee Posten), grandsons Kale Jones (Melissa), Nathan Heis (Rachael), Daniel Heis (Jessica), David Heis (Natalie); four great grandchildren, Kohen Heis, Aliyah Heis, Branson Heis and Hudson Heis; and sister, Connie Fraley. He is also survived by three nieces and two nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday December 11, 2023at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Roane County. Friends may call on the family from 12:00 pm until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
