Douglas Paul Patterson, 71, of Ripley, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 at O'Blennes Memorial Hospital in Athens following a long illness. He was born December 2, 1942 in Ravenswood, son of the late Clyde and Irene McCauley Patterson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Ripley Post 107 of the American Legion and a retired truck driver from the Teamster's Local in Huntington. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mary Patterson, in 2009. Surviving: Son, John Patterson of Amesville, Ohio; Daughters, Sandra Pursley (Sonny) of Ripley and Elizabeth Kenny (Clyde) of Ripley; Grandchildren, Jeremy McVey (Tara), Sean McVey, Jessika Patterson, Shawn Patterson, Ryan Patterson, Candice Patterson, David Patterson and Brady Patterson; Step-grandchildren, Daniel Pursley, Nathaniel Pursley and Amy Whyte (Quincey); Great-grandchildren, Gage, Alexis, Tristan and Winter McVey and Gracelynn Savage; Step great-grandchildren, Zavien and Zakeya Whyte. A service celebrating the life of Douglas Patterson will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 2:30p.m. at Waybright Funeral Home with Pastor George Freshour officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Parsons Cemetery, Gay.
