Edith Young Shinn, 98 of Kenna passed away January 6, 2016 at Ravenswood Care Center in Ravenswood, WV following a long illness. She was born April 5, 1917 at Gay, Jackson County, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Myrtle Evans Young. She was a graduate of Ripley High School where she was a member of one of the first basketball teams in school history. She and her husband, the late Lavelle Shinn whom preceded her in death in , owned and operated the Shinn Service Station in Kenna for many years. Edith was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Ripley. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family which included 6 children; Luveda Powell, Charlotte Mays, Helen Miller , Gary Young, and Joan Tincher. Surviving are nieces and nephews Emilie Johnson and family, Scott Tincher and family, Bonnie Parsons and family, and Frankie Mays and family. Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Rev. Charles Hicks officiating. Burial will be in the Fairplain Cemetery. Friends may call an hour prior to the service (1:00 to 2:00 pm) at the Funeral Home.
