Liz was a graduate of Stocco High School where she was a basketball star, and was also a proud graduate of Concord College. She was a retired physical education, health, and social studies educator with a long history of teaching in high schools in West Virginia and Virginia, making an impact on the lives of many students. She worked at a variety of different schools as she moved to follow Glenn’s career stops with the West Virginia State Police. The final decades of her career were spent teaching physical education and health in Jackson County, WV, mostly at Ripley High School, where she was a beloved teacher to many students from 1972-1994.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking, working in her yard, reading, and creative projects like painting and making stained glass stones. A lifelong athlete and lover of sports, she started playing golf in retirement, which provided her significant enjoyment and created lasting friendships.
The family would like to give special recognition to her loving caretakers Anita Butler and Jillian Izold, and special friends Benny and Brenda Hunt and Jim and Jennie Frashier for their loving care and companionship over the years. We would also like to acknowledge the Jackson County EMS and WVU Medicine Jackson General Hospital for providing compassionate care to Liz over the last few years. We are grateful to the angelic nurses and staff at Hubbard Hospice House for taking such wonderful care of our mother as she transitioned to her next life.
A celebration of life will take place Friday July 3 at 7PM at Waybright Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Thompson officiating. Family visitation will be from 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hubbard Hospice House, the Jackson County Public Library, or St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ripley.
