Ernest Dewees

Ernest (Ernie) Eugene DeWees, 81, of Grasslick Rd., Ripley, passed away at home on Sunday August 5th after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born December 11, 1936 to the late Charlie and Pearl (Casto) DeWees of Stonelick, Kenna. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Judy (Collins) DeWees, two sons, Brent (Diane) of Ripley and Richard (Lisa) of Newnan Ga. One Daughter, Teresa (Dennis) Albery of Sunbury, Ohio. Six Grandchildren, Cassandra (Bill) Sigon, Matthew Albery, Nathanael (Bo) DeWees, Meredith (Austin) Seevers, Kyla (Chris) Beals, and Colter DeWees. Also three great grandchildren. He is also survived by Brothers Clifford and Clarence DeWees and a sister, Sharon Gandee. Ruth (Rhodes) Collins Glassner (Mother in Law) and Richard (Juanita) Collins (Brother in Law) also survived by a number of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Ernie was a 1956 graduate of Ripley High school and a Veteran of the US Army Reserve. He retired from the Timken Company as a mechanic in Canton Ohio after 31 years of service. He also retired from Williams Super Service after an additional 13 years. He and Judy returned to Jackson County in 2000. He always enjoyed working on cars and machinery as well as cutting wood, working outside of the house and riding horses. He had attended the Churches of Christ/Christian Church in multiple locations for more than 60 years. Often serving as a Deacon, Trustee or Elder. Most recently attending the West Ripley Church of Christ. He enjoyed travel and family, especially his grandchildren. He was always helpful, kind and willing to go the extra mile for others. Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Brent and Richard DeWees officiating. Burial will be in the Ephesus Cemetery, Grasslick Road, Ripley. Friends may call from 1 to 2 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
