Ernest Truman Rawlings, 98, of Ripley passed away Monday, April 1, 2024 at Mountain View Care Center in Ripley.
He was born February 1, 1926 at Keyser, WV a son of the late Harry E. and Gladys (Likens) Rawlings. Truman proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was B-29 Tail gunner during World War II. He was an avid golfer who played as much as he could and was also involved in the construction of the Greenhills Country Club. Truman was also involved with the Ripley Athletic Boosters in helping construct the concrete bleachers at Memorial Stadium at Ripley High School. Most of all he enjoyed time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Truman is survived by his sons Kevin Rawlings (Janie) and Ernie Rawlings; grandchildren Ryan Rawlings (Tessa), Justin Rawlings (Heather), Amy Morehead and Sherry Bett and great-grandchildren Kylee, Melina, Mack and Sadi Rawlings, Megan Stewart, Allison Houchins and Carley and Rae Bett. Honorary grandchildren Justin and Kim Gunnoe and Leslie and Lily.
In addition to his parents Ernest was preceded in death by his first wife Sybil (Swiger) Rawlings, second wife Thelma (Shinn) Rawlings; sister Janis Geoghgan; brothers James and Ed Rawlings and a granddaughter, Kim Houchins.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6th at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville with Masonic Rites by Ripley Lodge #16 A.F. and A.M. Following the burial there will be meal prepared at Epworth United Methodist Church and all are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Truman’s memory to Epworth United Methodist Church, 299 N. Church St., Ripley, WV 25271.
