Evelyn Mae (Casto) Anderson Carpenter, 93 of Ripley, passed away June 12, 2023 at Jackson General Hospital in Ripley.

She was born April 12, 1930 in Belgrove, WV, daughter of the late Luster and Dessie Hatcher Casto. She was a kind and funny woman who loved the Lord God and her family. She attended Grasslick Baptist Church, where she was the oldest member. She was also a member of the Ripley Senior Citizens and had worked many years with the Ripley Lions Club. Evelyn was an accomplished seamstress and made her children’s clothing, quilted and crocheted many beautiful doilies, and competed in several sewing contests at the Kenna Grange. She loved to go to the Ripley Baptist Temple for the Senior Luncheons. She worked at Kroger’s in Ripley where she enjoyed handing out samples and visiting with friends.

Evelyn was married twice and predeceased by both spouses. She was first married for 17 years to Brady Anderson and to this union was born two beautiful daughters. Brady passed on March 16, 1966. She then married Hays Carpenter. Together Hays and Evelyn enjoyed 33 years together until his death on April 7, 2009.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by sister, Dorothy and her spouse Alvin Hunt and brother, Guy and his spouse Connie Casto.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Rick) Boggess of Goldtown , Karen (James) Starcher of Ripley and Sandra Nutter of Ravenswood; grandchildren, Rachelle (Roy) Bennett of Ripley, Jessica (William) Siders of St. Albans, Camichell (Nathan) Selbe of Kenna and Brian (Blake) Nutter of Tennessee; great grandchildren Riley, Rihya abd Ricci Bennett of Ripley, Brady Selbe of Kenna and Eris and Hays Nutter of Tennessee and a special sister-in-law Francis Grey of Idaho.

Evelyn will be remembered for many things, however we will forever miss her wisdom, funny stories, cooking, making brandy cookies, Easter Egg hunting, carving pumpkins, competition at Christmas for lotto tickets and her selfless love for others. We would like to thank Arlene Boggess, Ora Reynolds, Nina Keffer, Ravenswood Care Center, Dr. Malik and Jackson General Hospital for their help and compassion during their service to Evelyn.

Funeral Service will be 12:00 pm Saturday June 17, 2023 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Rev. Herman Robinson and Pastor Jimmie Compton officiating.
