Evelyn Matheny Wilson

Evelyn Matheny Walters Wilson, 98, of Vienna passed away, Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at her home following an extended illness. She was born January 17, 1924 in Roane County, a daughter of the late Harrison and Girtha Keffer Matheny. Evelyn will be remembered as the best mom in the world. She embraced the role of a homemaker and loved taking care of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn also worked for 14 years as a social worker with DHHR. She was the last living charter member of the Cisco Community Church and after moving to Vienna she attended the River Valley Church. Evelyn is survived by her daughters Diana Smith (Robert), Sheila Sparks (Bill), Sharon Walters and Pamela Keigans (Billy); brother Joe Matheny; sister Janice Stephens; grandchildren Ian Smith, Bradley Smith, Brock Hazelett, Jonathan Sparks and Centha Dively; great-grandchildren Paul Cooper, Cara Diveley, Clayton Diveley, Daniel Brewer, Lillian Sparks and Benjamin Sparks. In addition to her parents Evelyn was preceded in death by husbands Herman Walters and Ralph Wilson; brothers Don, Laco, Delmar, Dale, and Darrell “Dee” Matheny and a sister, Frances Guthrie. A private funeral service for immediate family will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. A public visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home. Evelyn will be laid to rest in the Mount Zion Cemetery, Roane County.
