Fay E. Strickland

October 23, 1931 — January 5, 2022

Fay E. Strickland, 90, of Ripley went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 after a short/long illness. Fay passed away at home, surrounded by her family. Fay was born and raised at Elkview, WV and attended Clendenin High School. For many years she was active member of Jordan Light Baptist Church. In 1966 she moved to Ripley wither her husband, of 55 years, Delmer L. “Jiggs” Strickland. Fay continued her Christian service at Mill Creek Baptist Church working with the youth, singing in the choir and was active in the American Baptist Women’s group. In later years she attended and was a member of West Ripley Baptist Church. He was active in the choir, Ladies Aid, collecting donations for Christmas drives and pennies for pews and cooking for church dinners. Fay was not ashamed of her love for Jesus Christ and was faithful to His service. After moving to Ripley, Fay worked for Thomas and Wolf Meat Market, Phil’s Pharmacy and Rite Aid. She earned her GED and completed her CNA certification and worked at Elder Care for several years. She later took a job at United National Bank, from which she retired. Fay was a wonderful cook, loved her flower gardens and did beautiful needle point and quilting. Fay is survived by her three daughters Cathy Deel (Dr. Donald I.) of Plymouth, IN, Connie Broscious (Raymond) of Ripley and Coleen “Cookie” Grady (Richard) of Sandyville, WV; 9 grandchildren Donald Deel II (Yvette), Robert Deel (Kim), Paul Deel (Diane), Michael Broscious, Matthew Broscious, Mark Broscious (Jamie), Alisha Wilson (Jason), Amanda Harper (Daris) and Ashley Morris (Chad). Fay also had 21 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. Fay so loved her family. Fay was preceded in death by her husband, Jiggs; parents Clell and Effie Campbell Canterbury and 8 siblings, of which she was the youngest. Due to the Covid Pandemic and Fay’s desire was to keep everyone safe a public service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 8th at Waybright Funeral Home, with Pastors Franklin Howerton and Robert Keen officiating. There will not be any visitation prior to the service but a time of sharing following. Fay will be laid to rest at the Jackson County Memory Gardens in Cottageville.
