Frances Elizabeth Guthrie, 94 of Ripley passed away July 27, 2015 at Jackson General Hospital following a long illness. Frances was born April 12, 1921 in Jackson County, daughter of the late Arthur and Girtha Keffer Matheny. She and her husband, the late Rev. D. C. "Dutch" Guthrie served many years together in doing the Lord's work and was part of the founding members of the Ripley Tabernacle Church. She enjoyed Sewing, quilting and cross stitch. She served as a Library Clerk at the Ripley Public Library and was a Grey Lady Volunteer at Jackson General Hospital. She also formerly worked as an Insurance Agent with Peoples Life Insurance, Kellwood Industries in Spencer and in the Underwood Administration at the Capitol. She is survived by her sons, Roy B. (Jackie) Guthrie and David (Kellie) Guthrie of Ripley. Grandchildren Kayce (Drew) Garrett, Kathy (Tom) White, Becky (Brian) Nuzum and Roy B. Guthrie Jr.; great Grandchildren Hannah (Paul) Hesson, Adam (Deni) White, Paige Jones and Lucas Bower; great great granddaughter Emma Olivia White; brother Denver "Joe" Matheny of Mason County; sisters Evelyn Wilson of Vienna and Janice Stephens of Ripley. In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by brothers Don, Laco, Delmar, Dale and Darrell "Dee" Matheny and a granddaughter Traci Guthrie. Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor John Jones and Pastor Mike Elder officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Roane County. Friends may call from 11:00 am until time of service on Friday at the Funeral Home.
