Jacob Fred Cunningham passed away at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH on May 24, 2017 at the age of 97. He was born in East Liverpool, OH in 1919 and grew up in New Matamoras, OH. He graduated Valedictorian of his high school class in 1937. Fred graduated from Marietta College, Phi Beta Kappa, with a chemistry degree and went to work at Union Carbide, South Charleston, WV, in 1941 as a research chemist. He married Frances Lee Johns of Kentuck, WV in October 1951. The oldest children were born in the next few years, Jay Fred and Thomas Claude. Then 17 years later they had Lisbeth Anne. Fred is preceded in death by his wife Frances and his son Jay. He is survived by his children, Thomas Claude (Sue) and Lisbeth Anne; his grandchildren, Carolyn(Matt), Thomas(Julie), and Sarah; his great-grandchildren, Breanna, Madelyn, Annabella, and Luca. Fred started attending Covenant Presbyterian Church in 2004. He was saved, baptised and enjoyed studying scriptures. His three loves were family, flowers, and worshipping the Lord. The whole family enjoyed listening to Fred’s stories, playing backgammon, and watching sports. Visitation is Saturday 3 June 5-7pm at Waybright Funeral Home, 511 Church St S, Ripley, WV and Visitation Sunday 4 June 4-4:30pm with Funeral to follow from 4:30-5:30pm at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 424 Cross Lanes Drive, Nitro, West Virginia, Graveside at 6:30pm, Goshen Cemetery, Kentuck, Jackson County, WV, Dinner 7:30 provided by Jackson County Hunting Heros to follow at Parchment Valley Conference Center, 1715 Parchment Valley Rd, Ripley, WV. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in memory of Fred be made to the Goshen Cemetery, HC 62 Box 50, Kenna, WV 25248
