Freda W. Smith

Freda Smith Freda Wylene Smith, 93, of Leroy, died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at CAMC Memorial following a long illness. She was born May 9, 1921 in Jackson County, daughter of the late James Wiley and Janie King Moore. Freda was retired from the Duncan Post Office with 40 years of service and also managed a general store in that time. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3488, Sandyville, where she served as secretary-treasurer and a member of the Meadowdale Baptist Church where she was Sunday School Treasurer for many years. In years past she was a member of the Sandyville Extension Homemaker. An avid bell collector, she had an extensive collection that included a bell from each of the 50 states. She is survived by four sons, Dannie L. and his wife Kathleen of Broad Run VA, Doran R. of North Carolina, Douglas O. and his wife Patricia of Sandyville and Donald L. and his wife Jo Beth of Charleston; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Freda was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Dale Smith. A service celebrating the life of Freda Smith will be Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Rev. James Epling officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Meadowdale Cemetery, Sandyville.
