Freeda Fay Halstead

Freeda Fay Halstead, 94 of Ripley, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 14, 2025, following an extended illness.

Freeda was born April 12, 1931, in Kenna, daughter of the late Joseph and Esther Winter Hatcher. She worked at the O.J. Morrison Department Store in Ripley with 35 years of service. At the store she worked as a salesclerk and did alterations on men’s suits and clothing. She enjoyed quilting, but her real passion was serving the Lord and being with her church family. She attended the Joes Run Memorial Church in Ripley and while living in Tennessee for a while she attended the Advent Arlington Church.

She is survived by daughters, Ruby (Donnie) Kerns and Diane (Allen) Judy; grandchildren, Donald Ray (Amy) Kerns, Jason (Amy) Kay, Jay (Heather) Kerns, Kermit (Tracey) Kay and Joe (Jennifer) Kay. She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She will be missed by her special pet, Louie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Halstead; her son Rodney Leon Kay and brothers, Uriah Hatcher, Okey Hatcher, Oliver Hatcher, Rev. Joe Hatcher and Ralph Hatcher.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, November 20, 2025, the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Donnie Ray Kerns officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley. Friends may Call on the family from 12:00 pm until the time of the service on Thursday at the Funeral Home.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Ravenswood Village Care Center for the special love and care given to Freeda during her three-year stay at the facility. Your love and kindness given to Freeda will not be forgotten. May God bless you all.
