Gerald Denver Ray

Gerald Denver Ray, 83, of Ripley passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Charleston Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He was born April 14, 1934 at Romance, WV a son of the late Cecil and Dessel Jones Ray. After graduating from Tennessee Temple University Gerald became a minister who loved sharing the word of God with as many people as he could. He pastored at several churches throughout the state and was involved with several prison ministries as well. He later worked as a funeral attendant for Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home in Charleston until he retired. Gerald was a very talented woodworker and a member of the Ripley Baptist Temple. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Eunice Randolph Ray; Sisters Joann James of Ohio, Geneva Scites(Clark) of Ohio, and Wanda Sanitini of Maryland. He is also survived by special friend of the family, Sherry Stewart. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by Brothers Curtis and Richard Ray. Funeral service will be 11a.m. Monday, May 8, 2017 at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor Jim Phillips officiating. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
