It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Glen D. Hutchinson, 69, of Sandyville, WV. Glen was born on July 24, 1956, in Ravenswood, WV, and passed away on March 28, 2026, on the farm he loved.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Louise Hutchinson of Sandyville, WV, and his brother-in-law, Rick Koontz, also of Sandyville.
He graduated from Ripley High School with the Class of 1974. Glen proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1975 to 1981. He worked as a journeyman with Local Carpenters Union 899 for 25 years before retiring.
Glen was a member of the WV Trappers Association, where he made many friends and enjoyed the sport of trapping. He loved farming and spent much of his time outdoors, often with his loyal Red Heeler, Rosie, by his side.
Glen also had a deep love for history, particularly World War II. He traveled to Europe multiple times to visit areas where his father had served, something that meant a great deal to him.
Glen is survived by his beloved companion, Rosie; his sister, Patty Koontz of Sandyville, WV; his nephew, J.D. (Lori) Koontz of Lake Wylie, SC; his niece, Julie (Tim) Miller of Sandyville, WV; his great nephews, Ethan, Elliot, and Elijah Koontz; his great step-niece, Alex (Harry) Chiu; his great nephew, Luke (Bethany) Miller; his great niece, Adriana (Corey) Hill; and his great-great nephew, Cohen Hill.
He also leaves behind many close neighbors and friends who often stopped by to visit, sharing long conversations and plenty of laughter. Glen had many aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he visited often, and he was well known for bringing along his “famous” homemade peanut brittle. The family would like to recognize his cousin, Robin Sheppard, for the love and care she showed Glen.
Glen had an amazing talent for baking and cooking, and no one ever turned down an invitation to enjoy one of his home-cooked meals.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 3, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley, WV. Burial will be a private service with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 107 at Meadowdale Cemetery in Sandyville, WV.
