Glenn Edward Seymour of Ripley passed away on December 28, 2023. He was born April 10, 1933, in
Eccles, WV to Oscar and Vivian Dickenson Seymour.
Glenn graduated from Trap Hill (now Liberty) High School in 1951 and was a star athlete in football and
basketball. Following his graduation from high school, he joined the Marines and served in the Korean
Conflict. After returning home from Korea, he became a WV State Trooper serving many communities
including Princeton, Lewisburg, Elizabeth, Point Pleasant, Parkersburg and Ripley until his retirement in
1977. He was instrumental in the building of the original Ripley State Police barracks on Route 62. Glenn
then went on to work as an investigator for the West Virginia State Tax Department until his retirement
in 1995.
Glenn was a stern man, but if you were a friend, it was for life. He was married to his beautiful wife
Elizabeth for 67 years. Glenn was especially proud of his daughters and enjoyed being a grandfather to
his 6 grandchildren. His passion was woodworking, and he was lucky to have a woodworking shop in his
backyard during his retirement years. Few visitors left without a tour of the shop and hand-made gifts
to take home. He also loved humor and was an excellent story and joke teller. In his travels as an
investigator for the tax department, he took it upon himself to take photos of most of the WV historic
roadside markers, which he put into an album and eventually donated to the Jackson County Library.
Glenn enjoyed an amazing December and Christmas holiday with family and friends before departing
this life peacefully sleeping in his favorite chair.
In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his three siblings, Helen, Arthur, and
Dawn. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Wyco Seymour; daughters Kimberly Napora (Bo) of Oakland,
MD; Karen Holland (Patrick) of Erie, PA; and Katheryn Monk (Gannett) of Sissonville, WV. He is also
survived by his six grandchildren: Emma Holland of Chicago, IL; Olivia Hardy (Ryan) of Travelers Rest, SC;
Grace Holland of Chicago, IL; Luke Holland (Kellie-Sue) of Erie, PA; and Jackson and Sawyer Monk of
Sissonville, WV. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Dr. John Snyder for his considerate care of Glenn over the last few years. Also special
thanks to the Jackson County EMS for their many compassionate and caring trips to the home as Glenn's
health declined. We would also like to give special thanks to his primary caregiver Anita Butler, who
grew very close to Glenn over the last year, and to his part-time caregiver Linda Blankenship. Visitation
will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, from 5pm - 7pm at Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley with a
service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 558 Ripley WV 25271
