Glenwon Sue Rhodes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Glenwon Sue Rhodes, who departed this life on June 17, 2025 at the age of 85, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease for 24 years.

Sue faced Parkinson’s with remarkable dignity and grace. Even as the disease progressed, she remained a source of inspiration—never allowing it to define who she was. Despite the challenges of Parkinson’s for over 24 years, she faced each day with strength, grace and a quiet determination that inspired all who knew her.

Born in Kenna, WV on November 20, 1939, to Guy and Leoma Parsons. She was a member of Fisher Memorial Church. Sue was a woman of grace, strength and unshakable love. She was known for her warmth, kindness and selflessness as she always put others first.

She was a devoted wife of 64 years to Jackie Rhodes, who preceded her in death in 2021. She was a loving mother to Sheryl (Buck) Hoyt, Tammie (Terry) Snyder, and Scott (Amanda) Rhodes and was a proud grandma to her 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. All of her family, including her sister, Rita Holley and best friend, Carol Hornbeck Chancey will carry her memory forward.

The family wishes to thank all her caregivers who allowed Sue to live her best life at home by giving her the ultimate personal care. To name a few were Cassie, Janna, Jessica and Juleigha.

A celebration of Sue’s life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley, WV at 12 PM. Visitation will be held from 11 AM until the time of service. Sue will be laid to rest at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Though Parkinson’s may have challenged her body, it never touched her heart, nor dimmed the light she brought into the world. Sue will be missed beyond words and remembered always with love.
