Hazel Irene Cummings

Hazel Irene (Jones) Cummings, 100 of Gay, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 1, 2016 at Ravenswood Village, Ravenswood, WV. She was born at Harmony, Roane County, WV on July 16, 1916 to the late David H. and Dona Westfall Jones. She married the love of her life, Romie Washington Cummings on December 10, 1932. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1978. Also preceding her in death were son Romie Arol “Rat” Cummings; brothers Delmar Jones and Mayford Jones; sisters Mary Hissom, Virginia Lester Stuart and Shirley Westfall along with several beloved brothers and sisters-in-law. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law David “Tiny” and Audra Jones Cummings of Parkersburg; daughter-in-law Norma (Kerns) Cummings of Elyria, OH; grandson Martin (Judy) Cummings of North Canton, OH; granddaughters Pamela Cummings of Parkersburg and Denise (Jon) Harrison of Elyria, OH and Great granddaughters Renee Harrison and Rachel Harrison of Elyria, OH and Ronni Cummings of North Canton, OH along with many nieces and nephews. Hazel loved working on her farm, reading her Bible, attending church (her home church was Mt. Carmel “Rocky Knob” Baptist Church), quilting, laughing and playing with children and animals. She wanted everyone to call her “Granny.” She also worked at Cedar Lakes and as an in home caregiver to older people. A celebration of Hazel’s life will be on Sunday December 4, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with the Rev. Leonard Kessell officiating and Shirley Kay singing. Interment will follow in the Aplin Cemetery, on Aplin Ridge Road, Gay. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm.
