Helen E. Ray Helen Elizabeth Ray, 80, of Sandyville, passed away on Wednesday, October 17 at her home following an extended illness. She was born July 30, 1932 in Fayette County, West Virginia, one of eleven children born to Edward and Avona Burdette Hughes. She received her practical nursing degree at age 18 and worked continuously in the nursing profession until retirement at age 65. In 1958 she married the late Curtis Ray, a union that stood until his passing in 2000, and children and grandchildren followed. She loved and enjoyed her family very much, especially the grandbabies and great-grandbabies. Besides being mom and mawmaw to her family she was that and much more to countless persons over the years. She loved to collect rabbits, teapots and quilts. Helen will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Surviving: Son, Bill Thornton (Carol) of Poca; Daughters, Bonnie Sue Haynes (Carroll) of Romance, Beckey Ray (Bud) of Oklahoma, Linda Boggesds (Paul Woods) of Charleston and daughter Christina Lupardus (Josh) of Sandyville. She also leaves nnine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services are set for Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with John Gunther and Elmer Miller officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Emma Chapel Cemetery, Liberty.
