Herbert L. "Jack" Smith

Herbert L. "Jack" Smith Jr., 84 of West Columbia, Mason County passed away May 15, 2015 at his home following a brief illness. He was born May 8, 1931 at Charleston, son of Leslie H. and Margaret Windon Smith. He served in the United States Marine Corp. and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a hard worker and always took care of his family. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum after 28 years of service and worked in construction prior to his time at Kaiser. He enjoyed farming and the outdoors and in his down time liked to watch TV. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by Amy Harrison whom raised him and he always called Mom. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maxine Pfost Smith; daughters Jacqueline Lee Brown, Joanne Marie Strader and Jeanette Allison Smith. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and he was a great great grandfather. Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Burial will be in the Fairplain Cemetery near Ripley. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
