Herman Dale Sargent, 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 13, 2025. He passed away at home with his loving wife Celia Shirrel (Griffith) Sargent by his side.
Dale was born on June 24, 1938 on Bailey Branch in Mason County to the late William Thurston and Louie Grey Sargent. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Thurston Junior, James Leo, John Alford, Delmas Gilbert and Thurmon Dwight Sargent and sisters Dorothy Jean Hopkins, Patty Smith and infant sisters Rosealee and Baby Girl Sargent.
He is survived by his brothers Tracy Clifford (Brenda) and Charles Frederick (Rebecca) and sister Kathern Durst. Although they had no children, they have many nieces and nephews.
Dale and Celia celebrated their 60th anniversary on May 31, 2025. He met Celia in 1964, and they were married in 1965. Dale moved to Columbus, OH and began working in 1956 at Columbus Auto Parts (he also belonged to UAW) before returning to West Virginia in 1986 after retiring with 30 years of service. He and Celia purchased and rehabbed an old farmhouse in 1974, which is their current home. It was one of the best and happiest decisions they ever made. He also fulfilled his duty in the US Army when he was drafted in 1961, completing 2 years of service.
Dale had many hobbies; hunting, playing basketball, riding his side by side around the neighborhood talking to neighbors, but golfing was his favorite. He passed away after a prolonged illness (skin cancer). Celia would like to thank everyone that has prayed, visited, provided food, cared for the farm and helped in caring for Dale during his sickness. Special thanks to: HospiceCare of Charleston, Pam and Eldon Jones, Don and Darlene Johnson, Barry and Shari Kincaid, Lee and Marie Landers, Kay and Steve Smith, Stan and Sandy Hopkins, Sherry Griffith, Linda Goodman, Josie and Bob Camp, Josiah Sargent, Bill and Sandra Griffith, Jonathan Sargent, Charles and Becky Sargent and Gary and Patty Sargent.
