Herman Sowards

Herman Darrell Sowards, 81 of Ripley passed away April 24, 2022 at CAMC memorial following a short illness. He was born May 18, 1940 in Culloden, WV, son of the late Herman and Marjorie Davis Sowards. He worked for many years for AEP and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family. He was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Ravenswood where he was an Elder and enjoyed preaching. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Roxanne Sowards; his children Anthony (Kim)Sowards, Kelly (Amy) Sowards, Joshua Sowards, Jennifer (Randy) Pickens and Karissa (John) Meredith; sister Doris Beckett; brothers Harold Sowards, Eddie Sowards and Donzie Sowards. He is also survived by grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren “Kristy”, Jessica, Brent, Samantha, Shianne, Mickey, Riannah, Elijah, Natalie, Kayla, Riley, Nikolas, Peyton and Alexis and two great-grandchildren, Serenity and Malachi. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Jason Sowards; a brother, Rondel Sowards; a sister Connie Ward and grandchildren Jesse, Lillian and Isabella. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the First United Pentecostal Church in Ravenswood with Pastor David Johnston officiating. A time of visitation with the family will be from 12:00 pm until the time of service on Saturday at the Church. Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, is serving the family.
