J. Michael Gaunch

June 29, 1943 — April 14, 2024

J. Michael Gaunch, 80 of Evans, passed on to his Heavenly reward, April 14, 2024 after a two month battle with Multiple Myeloma (Bone Marrow Cancer).

Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 53 years, Pamela of Evans; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Wayn “Mickey” and Lori Sue of Monroe, NC; and his brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Marilyn Gaunch of Charleston, WV. Mike’s companion was his little dog, Orchis, whom he adored.

Mike retired after many years working in the coal industry in purchasing and inventory control for Armco, Peabody Coal, and Eastern Associated Coal. After traveling for a few years as a consultant for warehousing for Peabody he retired for a second time. His third career was with Kanawha Scales and Systems, which he left in 2005 to devote time to his family. Mike Loved the Lord and many times in his final weeks, when communication allowed, he let us know he was heading to Heaven when God’s time for him here was done.

Many thanks to all the prayer warriors behind the scenes, all his caretakers along the way, his doctors, the staff at Cedar Ridge, CAMC Hospice and our longtime geriatrician and dear friend, Dr. William H. Harris.

In honoring his wishes, he will be cremated with no public service. For those wishing to make a donation in memory of Mike, and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1401 Washington St. W., Charleston, WV 25387 or to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25387. Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley is assisting the family with arrangements.
