On Thursday, November 5, 2020, James Allen Jewell (84), passed away at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg, WV, following a brief illness. Jim was born January 20, 1936. A life-long resident of Ripley, WV, he was a graduate of Ripley High School, Class of 1953, and served three years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Mannheim, Germany. He worked for many years in construction as a dump truck driver on such projects as the Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Plant; the Burnsville, Summersville, and Bellville, WV, dams, and several road jobs, including the West Virginia Turnpike Tunnel. He also worked for Cedar Coal Company driving a Euclid Coal Hauler. For most of his life, he was a livestock broker and was a familiar figure at the stock markets in Ripley, Spencer, and Mineral Wells and was well known to farmers throughout West Virginia and Southeastern Ohio. Jim loved music, particularly country and bluegrass, so he could frequently be found at local venues to listen live. Those who frequented the old M & R Truck Stop and the Ripley McDonalds would often find him in his favorite booth. He was loved and respected by many for his kindness, his generosity, and his humor. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Charles Walter, his mother, Maple Norine (Hoge), and sister Lola Belle Randolph. He is survived by his wife Eleanor (Wells), daughters Jamie Jewell and Terri Rhodes (Charles), grandchildren, James Rhodes (Misty) and Emily Rhodes (Dylan Brooks), sister Marie Delong, brothers William Jewell and Frederick Jewell, as well numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Family and friends may call at Waybright Funeral Home, 511 Church Street, Ripley, WV, 25271, on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 12:00 noon. A service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. that day, followed by internment at Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley. In accordance with State of WV Guidelines a face covering will be required to attend services.
